How to send view once photos and videos on WhatsApp

WhatsApp this week rolled out a new feature that lets you send disappearing view once photos and videos, like Snapchat. It’s called ‘View Once’ and, as the name suggests, this feature lets you view photos and videos only once after you receive them on WhatsApp.

It was first available for WhatsApp beta users, and it is now available to all users globally. The new ‘View Once’ feature is available with the latest version of the WhatsApp app, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the App Store.

Once your WhatsApp is updated to the latest version, follow these steps to use the View Once feature. This feature will be enabled by default on WhatsApp, and you just need to know where to spot it.

This feature we’ve seen before on Snapchat and then Instagram as well, and finally it’s here on WhatsApp. In this tutorial, I am going to show you how it works step by step.

How to send view once photos and videos on WhatsApp

  1. The first thing you need to do is update WhatsApp to the latest version; that’s how you get the newest feature like this one.
  2. Open up your App Store on your Apple iPhone if updating via the App Store.
  3. Then you have to tap on your profile photo at the top right corner of your screen; if you don’t have a profile on your app store, it will just be a blank image.
  4. On the next screen, you have to swipe down to refresh and look for new updates.
  5. After refreshing the page, scroll down and locate WhatsApp in the list of apps. If WhatsApp is not on the list of apps, it’s either already updated or there are no updates available.
  6. Just scroll down to the list of updated apps to see WhatsApp confirmation if it’s already updated. If it’s already updated, you can click on WhatsApp to see the version you have installed on your iPhone. The version you are supposed to be in to use this feature is at least 2.21.151 or above. The higher the version, the more updated you are. So you have to be on this version or above to use this feature.
  7. After the update, just proceed to open the WhatsApp application you just updated.
  8. Try to send a video or a photo as you would normally do.
  9. Tap on the plus + button.
  10. Tap on photos and video library.
  11. Select the photo or video you want to send.
  12. After you’ve selected it, look for the new 1 icon in the text bar.
  13. Tap the icon to highlight it. When highlighted, it will turn blue.
  14. When this (1) icon is colored blue this means the view one feature is highlighted.
  15. Then send the photo or video.

Conclusion

After opening, photos and videos sent in View Once mode will disappear.

WhatsApp will display a message saying “Opened” after the photo or video disappears from the chat. When using WhatsApp’s View Once feature, media content sent will not be stored on the phone.

That’s all on sending view once disappearing photos and videos on WhatsApp. So if some reason after updating your WhatsApp this feature doesn’t work still, just wait for some time after upgrading, this is common, and you will surely get this feature after the update.

I’ve made up stories in my head for as long as I can remember—I put myself to sleep at night when I was young by rewriting the plots and endings of books I’d read. I assumed this was normal and everyone else did it, too, until I began getting weird looks when I talked about it. Finally, when I was twelve, I figured it out and decided I’d be a writer when I grew up.
